What are certified translations?

Certified translations are prepared, signed and stamped by a translator authorised by the Ministry of Justice. The translator holds an official authorisation as both translator and interpreter, issued by the Ministry of Justice. This authorisation is granted in accordance with Law No. 178/1997 and its implementing Regulation No. 462/C/1998.

In some cases, a translator certified by the Ministry of Culture may be required. This is especially the case for technical translations and extensive documentation projects. We are also able to assist you with this type of service.

In practice, the certified translator certifies the translation by signing and stamping the translated document. In other words, they confirm that the original content and the meaning of the text have not been altered during translation.

What does this mean exactly? In practice, this means that the certified translator:

  • confirms the accuracy of the translation into or from a foreign language;
  • confirms that the text has been fully translated, without any omissions;
  • confirms that the translation does not alter the content or meaning of the document.

Another common question is:

How can I tell how many pages need translating?

Under European translation standards, one page is defined as 2,000 characters including spaces, 1,800 characters excluding spaces, or roughly 300 words. Once you send us your document online for certified or notarised translation, we will provide a clear and accurate quote covering both translation and notarisation.

How does this process work?

We are a translation agency with extensive experience in the field. In addition to having a trained eye, we also rely on specialised software. These tools enable us to convert any documents received online from non-editable formats into fully editable formats. It is important to know that you can receive the cost and delivery time for any certified or notarised translation within 15 minutes.

Why does this matter?

Because we understand how valuable your time is. We also take into account that a page in the original format does not necessarily match a translated page. The number of pages may vary after translation. For instance, translations from English into Romanian typically result in a higher page count.

What types of documents do we translate?

Simply put… all types of documents. To be more specific, personal documents such as birth, marriage, name change and death certificates, as well as criminal record documents. We also handle certificates such as celibacy certificates, pension certificates, student certificates and employment certificates. Identity documents are also included. Naturally, we also handle civil status and citizenship documents, pension slips and related certificates. Academic documents, including high school diplomas, master’s degrees and certificates of course completion. In addition, we also work with documents issued by universities and higher education institutions, such as transcripts, study certificates and graduation documents.
Anything else? Employment-related documents. We also translate vehicle documents, including registration documents, both parts of the registration certificate, and purchase invoices. For vehicle-related purposes, we also handle translations of powers of attorney or loan agreements for travelling abroad. Other types of documents? Legal, accounting and financial documents, along with medical and technical documents, in other words, any type of document requiring translation.

What are notarised translations?

Notarised translations are certified translations that includes notarisation of the translator’s signature. In accordance with Law No. 36/1995 on Public Notaries and Notarial Activity, Article 94, notarisation is carried out by a notary public.

In order to issue a notarised translation, the certified translator signs the certification statement and submits the required supporting documents. The notary then notarises the translator’s signature. In order for a certified translation to be notarised, the original document must be provided. It follows the same principle as notarising copies of personal documents, such as diplomas or certificates.

Notarisation involves the notary verifying that the signature and stamp on the translated document belong to a certified translator. This is confirmed by the notary through a database containing specimen signatures and stamps of certified translators.

By choosing our services, and thanks to our collaborations with multiple notary offices in Bucharest, you can obtain notarised translations quickly, in line with the highest quality standards.

What does the notarisation process for a translation involve?

First of all, it’s important to understand that not all documents can be notarised. Only official documents that carry original signatures and stamps are eligible for notarisation. Documents signed privately are not eligible for notarised translation.

First of all, it’s important to understand that not all documents can be notarised. Only official documents that carry original signatures and stamps are eligible for notarisation. Documents signed privately are not eligible for notarised translation.

Is it possible to notarise a translation that is not certified?

It’s also important to understand that a document cannot be self-translated and then brought to us solely for notarisation. We do not recommend this approach, as it tends to be more complex and time-consuming than it appears. Why not use your time in a more enjoyable way? That’s exactly where a translation agency becomes useful. We are here to help you with any certified translation service, as well as its notarisation, especially since our office in Sector 1 is easy to reach.

What are notarised translations with the Hague Apostille or superlegalisation?

In some cases, particularly when you intend to use translated and notarised documents abroad, you may be required to obtain the Hague Apostille on the translated documents.

An Apostille is a certificate issued by the competent authorities of a country that is part of the Hague Convention. The Apostille is applied to official documents issued within that country. These documents are meant to be used in another country that is also a signatory to the Convention.

In Romania, the Apostille can only be applied to documents issued by Romanian authorities. Whether you are apostilling a notarised copy or a notarised translation, the original document must be issued by Romanian authorities. It is important to check whether the original Romanian documents also require an Apostille before starting the translation and notarisation process and before requesting the Apostille documents translated into an internationally used language.

What do you need to do if you require translated and notarised documents or apostille and superlegalisation services from us?

Nothing at all, just get in touch! We will take care of everything for you. You will walk away with your documents translated by a certified translator, notarised by a Public Notary and duly apostilled. The Hague Apostille or superlegalisation on notarised translations can only be applied by the Chamber of Public Notaries. The main office is located in Bucharest, at No. 58 Știrbei Vodă Street, District 1. The Chamber of Public Notaries operates within the jurisdiction of the Bucharest Court of Appeal. The process can take time, and we are already well experienced in handling it.

So go ahead, enjoy a coffee with your loved ones and leave these details to us, because we #translatewellbeing!
